About L&R

Engineering You Can Rely On

Based in Gloucester just off the M5, L&R Precision Engineering has been producing high-quality machined components since 2003. We specialise in toolmaking, CNC turning and CNC milling across a wide range of materials.

Our highly skilled machinists carry considerable technical knowledge built over many years of hands-on experience. State-of-the-art plant — including HAAS and XYZ machinery — allows us to hold tight tolerances repeatedly, even on the most complex components.

We often identify improvements to customer designs that reduce production cost without compromising function. Whether the job is urgent or complex, the L&R team is always on hand to help.

01

Rapid Response

Fast quoting and short lead times — we know that downtime costs money.

02

Technical Expertise

Our machinists provide practical advice that regularly reduces customer costs.

03

Tight Tolerances, Repeatedly

Volume turning to 10 microns accuracy, held consistently across full production runs.

04

All Material Types

From Inconel to brass, titanium to plastics — we machine whatever the spec demands.

05

Competitive Pricing

Quality and value are not mutually exclusive. We prove that on every order.

Capability

What We Do

Using CAD/CAM software — OneCNC and Fusion 360 — we design and machine complex components accurately and efficiently, from one-off prototype to full production volume.

01
01

Milling

3 to 5-axis CNC milling of complex prismatic components across our HAAS VF4 SS (with TRT210 trunnion for full 5-axis work), HAAS VF2 SS YT, two HAAS Super Mini Mills, DMG EcoMill 600V and XYZ 750 LR. From complex 5-axis geometries machined in a single setup to large, heavy workpieces — one-offs, small batches and full production runs.

Turning

CNC turning with live tooling across our HAAS ST-20Y, XYZ Proturn and XYZ CT 65. The ST-20Y's Y-axis capability allows milling and turning operations to be completed in a single setup. We work across a wide range of materials and tolerances, from prototype quantities through to full production volumes.

Sliding Head Lathes

Sliding head (Swiss-type) turning for small, complex precision components produced in volume directly from bar. The guide bush supports the material right at the cutting point, holding exceptional accuracy on long, slender parts — ideal for high-volume runs of intricate turned components with minimal secondary operations.

EDM Machining

EDM machining across our Sodick VL600Q and VL400Q wire-cut machines and AD35L and AG60L die-sink machines. Linear motor drives deliver vibration-free, backlash-free cutting, with the wire machines producing intricate profiles and the sinkers complex 3D cavities to fine surface finishes. We work across hardened tool steels, carbide and exotic alloys, from prototype quantities through to full production volumes.

3D Printing & Prototyping

In-house additive manufacturing on our 2× Bambu Lab X1 Carbon and Qidi X-Max 3 printers. Ideal for rapid prototypes, fit-and-form checks, jigs and fixtures — we can turn a CAD model into a physical part fast, often the same day, to validate a design before committing to machined production.

Development & Prototyping

From Concept to Component

Using our 3D CAD/CAM expertise we model and exactly reproduce parts that are no longer in production, as well as develop entirely new products from concept through to manufacture.

We work closely with customers throughout the design process — often identifying ways to simplify manufacture, reduce cost or improve performance before a single chip is cut.

Accepted CAD Formats

Prototyping

Prototype Before
You Commit to Metal

Before a single chip is cut, we use in-house 3D printing to bring a design into the physical world. A CAD model can become a part you can hold in a matter of hours — letting us and our customers check fit, form and function early, when changes are quick and inexpensive.

Our Bambu Lab X1 Carbon printers — fitted with AMS multi-material systems — and our large-format QIDI X-Max 3 produce accurate prototypes across a wide range of engineering plastics. Printed parts are ideal for design validation, ergonomic and assembly checks, jigs and fixtures, and visual models — catching issues long before they reach the machine shop.

It's a faster, lower-cost route to a proven design, and it means the parts we machine are right first time.
